Brisbane's iconic The Myer Centre has closed its doors for the last time.
After more than three decades, bargain hunters have cleared out Myer's flagship Queen Street location in the heart of the city and its hallmark sign has been dismantled.
But the last rush was a far cry from the glory days, when the five-storey department store welcomed a stampede at every sale.
In its 35-year history, the store hosted its own fun park, saw a mall gunman cause a customer lockdown in 2013, and finally endured the retail deathknell of the COVID-19 pandemic.
9News understands the new identity of the site will be announced by property group Vicinity tomorrow.
Surrounding businesses are hoping the site will become home to a major attraction, drawing significant foot traffic.
Griffith University has denied rumours the site could become its new city campus.
